Sustained in Sleep

"I lay down and slept;

I awoke, for the Lord sustained me." (Ps. 3:5)

When we lie down to sleep, we are closing a page in this life, and we do not know where we are in the story. Are there many days ahead or might this be the last page in this place?

For those of us who seek and surrender to our Savior, if we are on our last page in this phase of life, we enter into the serene and satisfying sequel, where we are forever face to face with the one who sustains us.

But whatever our search and stance, if we awake once more, we have been sustained in sleep and given a new day, and our eyes have been reopened because there is more our Sustainer would like us to see before we see him face to face...
